This project was started in response to a feeling of being at a liminal – an in-between – stage. I was spending a lot of time on trains commuting to work, literally in between cities. This manifested as a sense of disorientation, which I began to explore through drawing, printing and painting 'in between places' like trains and bridges.
In the context of the corona virus pandemic my theme took on a new resonance whilst my subject matter changed. The paintings produced explore my environment whilst in lockdown, primarily taking inspiration from nature. At the time of making, it is not clear what life will look like when we emerge from quarantine, caught in a liminal place between life before and life after the virus.
