Collapsed Structure. Watercolour, charcoal, oil pastel and rubber band on canvas. 15 x 22cm.2020.
This is one of a series of paintings on angled stretchers I have been making during lockdown. I have become interested in collapsing the formal structure of the rectangular canvas by creating angled stretcher forms.
The subject for this work was a ruin of an old mill near where I live, which I abstracted to make this composition. The title, 'Collapsed Structure', refers as much to the subject as to the formal construction of the painting.
